Just Bells
7th Nov 2023This meditative composition uses an unusual tuning system known as just intonation. It was inspired by an article from John Baez. Each note is repeated with a tempo proportional to its frequency, similar to how church bells work. The resulting consonances are unlike anything you will hear on an equal tempered piano, and will surely drive your local piano tuner mad. It takes about 11 minutes for the whole cycle to repeat itself. I'd like to explore more of the vertical direction, which involves intervals of ratio 5/4, but these are much more dissonant.
